What's the origin story for your food business?

Priscilla Mkenda was born and raised in Tanzania and Uganda. “Sharing these two cultures has given me the urge to do what I’m doing. I wanted to do something I have a connection with, something I love. So I decided to introduce the same food here in the US and surprisingly my customers love it.”

What is your connection to food?

I think food brings people together. In my culture, when you visit any family regardless of whether they are poor or rich, the host will make sure you don’t leave without eating something. That is when you get to talk, laugh and get to know each other.

Why is it important for you to bring food to the world?

There are many people in my community who will never take a trip to Tanzania or get the opportunity to taste our cuisine. The fact that I can bridge that gap with food brings me great joy. Now I can provide dishes like Pilau, beef curry, makande, and treats like mandazi and Sambusa for fellow Tanzanians and also provide info  for curious customers.
